Design Observer Party: Memphis, October 9

The New Daisy Theater, Memphis TN

It is now a Design Observer tradition to host the best party at the AIGA Biennial Conference. It's usually off-site in some sleazy neighborhood far from the conference center. The music is too loud, and the drinks watered-down and cheap. And Design Observer founders, writers and contributors (and previously antagonistic commenters) have been known to mix it up on the dance floor.

This year's event at "Make Think: AIGA Design Conference" is at The New Daisy Theatre. Friday, October 9 from 9:00pm to 2:00am. The New Daisy is located at 330 Beale Street. Beale Street is the historic stretch that hosts the night life of downtown Memphis. It's only one mile from the AIGA conference — within walking distance. No cover charge. Cash bar.

The music will be awesome. Curated by DJ Chroma (aka Kevin Smith), fellow DJs will include DJ President (aka Debbie Millman), DJ Object (aka Gary Hustwit) and DJ Sweden (aka Jakob Trollbäck). More to come.

Guest stars at the party will be the AIGA Winterhouse Writing Awards winners: Sean Keller, Chappell Ellison and Steven Lauritano. Join us in celebrating their achievement. (Sponsors of this year's Winterhouse Writing Awards were Finlay Printing and Mohawk Paper. Thank you.)

Directions from the AIGA Conference at the Cannon Center for Performing Arts:
Head south on N Main St toward Market Avenue (200 feet)
Turn left at Market Ave (400 feet)
Turn right at N 2nd St (0.8 mile)
Turn left at Beale St (0.2 mile)

Looks like it's going to be fun, wish I lived closer to Memphis... I'd go for sure.

We look forward to seeing everyone and expect the DO party to be one to remember. Walking is a fine way to go, but staying on Main Street all the way to Beale is perhaps a nicer path.

You are also going to want to take advantage of the trolley line that runs the entire length of Main Street. For $1.00 you can catch a trolley from the Cannon Center all the way to Beale, or get an all day pass for $3.50.
