New Season of Design Matters with Debbie Millman

Design Matters

We are pleased to announce that the newest season of Design Matters with Debbie Millman will premiere on Observer Media today at 3pm with a video of Design Matters Live filmed by Hillman Curtis. Debbie Millman discusses the launch of Malcolm Gladwell's illustrated collection of The Tipping Point, Blink and Outliers. Guests included artist and illustrator Brian Rea, and designers Paul Sahre, Josh Liberson and DeeDee Gordon.

Design Matters is returning to regular weekly broadcasts every Friday afternoon — and a full season of audio/podcast interviews with designers, artists, writers, thought leaders and general all-around provocateurs. This exciting season will include interviews with Jen Bekman, James Biber, Ken Carbone, John Conant Flansburgh, Karl Heiselman, Cheryl Heller, Randy J. Hunt, Jennifer Kinon & Bobby C. Martin, Jr., Roman Mars, Emily Oberman, Maria Popova, Erik Spiekermann and Khoi Vinh. More interviews will be announced in the coming months.

In October 2011, Design Matters was the proud recipient of the People's National Design Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, the award choosen by public voting for a National Design Award. Debbie Millman notes, “Design Matters began in February of 2005 with an idea and a telephone line. I thought it would be a great way to ask my heroes everything I wanted to know about their lives and their thoughts and their careers without seeming stalker-y. In the process, I gleaned the most magnificent view of some of the greatest design thinkers and practitioners of our time. I realized the opportunity to share the brilliance of my guests with an audience I never expected was the gift of a lifetime."

The shows are recorded in a recording studio at the Masters in Branding Program at the School of Visual Arts —and the shows will be aired regularly on Friday afternoons through the spring.

Design Observer is pleased to be broadcasting Design Matters, and you can listen to both the new episodes, as well as the entire archive of past shows here.
