James Sanders

James Sanders, AIA, the principal of James Sanders + Associates, is an architect and writer whose multi-disciplinary work has garnered him a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Emmy, Peabody and DuPont-Columbia awards. With Ric Burns, he co-wrote the eight-part PBS series, New York: A Documentary Film, and he is the author of Celluloid Skyline: New York and the Movies, which was hailed by the late Jane Jacobs as a “marvelous — miraculous — book.” His architectural and design work has included numerous public open-space projects, from his successful effort to revitalize Bryant Park in Manhattan in the 1980s for the Parks Council, to his recent "Riverways" (with Pentagram) for the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Commission.
