Schafran is currently completing a dissertation which examines how the San Francisco Bay Area was transformed over the past three decades, culminating in the effects of the recent foreclosure crisis. His article “Outside Endopolis: Notes from Contra Costa County” won the Edward W. Soja Award for Critical Urban Thought from Critical Planning
