Ian Baldwin

Ian Baldwin is a contributing editor for Places. His writing on design and urbanism has also appeared in The Architectural Review, Architecture Boston and Metropolis Online.

After working as a reporter and writer for magazines including Kiplinger's, Travel + Leisure and US News & World Report, Ian studied architecture at Columbia University, the School of the Architectural Association and the University of Pennsylvania, from which he received his Master of Architecture in 2006. In professional practice, he worked on educational projects in New York and abroad, and was part of a 200-person team of architects and engineers designing a major transport interchange in lower Manhattan.

Ian has been an invited jury critic for landscape and architecture studios at Brown University, Columbia, Harvard University, Penn, and Pratt Institute. He has taught studios and seminars at Northeastern, NYU and Roger Williams University. Last year he was a visiting professor at Wentworth Institute of Technology. He currently teaches the history and theory of modern architecture at Rhode Island School of Design.
