Joel Sternfeld


Joel Sternfeld is widely regarded as one of the most influential fine-art color photographers in the world, noted for his large-format documentary pictures of the United States and establishing color photography as a respected artistic medium. Many of his works are in the permanent collections of the MOMA in New York and the Getty in Los Angeles. Sternfeld earned a BA from Dartmouth College and taught photography at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. His books include On This Site: Landscape in Memoriam, Hart Island, Walking the High Line, and Sweet Earth: Experimental Utopias in America.
