Julie Lasky
Julie Lasky is editor of Change Observer. She was previously editor-in-chief of
I.D. and
Interiors, and managing editor of
Print. Lasky has contributed to
The New York Times, Metropolis, Dwell, Eye, Slate and NPR.
She is the author of two books:
Borrowed Design: Use and Abuse of Historical Form (written with Steven Heller) (Van Nostrand Reinhold) and
Some People Can't Surf: The Graphic Design of Art Chantry (Chronicle Books). Her essays have been published in the books
Bridge: The Architecture of Connection (August/Birkhauser),
&Fork: 100 Designers, 10 Curators, 10 Good Designs (Phaidon Press),
Households (Monacelli Press),
Dish: International Design for the Home (Princeton Architectural Press), and the forthcoming
The Innovators (Thames & Hudson). Honors include a National Arts Journalism Program Fellowship at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and the Richard J. Margolis award for writings on the cultural life of postwar Sarajevo.
A frequent lecturer on design, Lasky has taught in the MFA Design program at the School of Visual Arts and recently joined the MFA Design Criticism faculty at SVA. She was a juror for the 2006 Winterhouse Awards for Design Writing and Criticism.
