Nancy Levinson is the editor of Places
. She brings to the role experience in design and practice, most recently as founding director of the Phoenix Urban Research Laboratory and a professor of practice at The Design School at Arizona State University. At ASU, she worked with colleagues to develop the interdisciplinary project
Post-Petroleum Phoenix: Transforming the Low-Density City for an Eco-Energy Future. At the Harvard Graduate School of Design, she cofounded
Harvard Design Magazine and directed its rise to international prominence, creating issues on new directions in metropolitan form, urban sprawl and spectacle culture, monuments and memorials, and urbanism in post-communist Eastern Europe, among others. As an editor at Princeton Architectural Press, she developed books on subjects ranging from visual perception to vernacular photography to landscape urbanism. Nancy has a B.A. from Yale University and an M.Arch from University of Pennsylvania.
Josh Wallaert is the assistant editor of Places and a writer working at the edge of language and landscape. His short stories and poems have appeared in
TriQuarterly,
Southern Review,
Gettysburg Review,
Shenandoah,
Black Warrior Review, and other journals, and he co-directed the award-winning documentary film
Arid Lands. He has an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Minnesota.
