Susan Roy

A former magazine editor, Susan Roy emerged from the publishing bunkers and last year earned an M.A. in architectural history at Columbia University. Her most recent book Bomboozled: How the U.S. Government Misled Itself and Its People is based on her master’s thesis, “The Family Fallout Shelter during the Cold War.” She is interested in the security state, propaganda, “security theater,” and all things atomic. During her research, she was stunned to discover that the film Dr. Strangelove is only a mild exaggeration of actual nuclear deterrence theory created by the Rand Corp. in the 1950s.
