But what do all the powerplants in the US weight? and what about all the electric poles and wires, transformers and coal trains? Or what about the weight of all the oil rigs, tankers, refineries, pipelines, tanker trucks and gas stations?

I'd rather have 700 sf of solar panels 'along with a room full of hardware and batteries'...

There also the issue of water use by power generation, fossil fuel production guzzles significantly more water then the production of photovoltaics (which still require a large amount of water).
