Great post! I just saw a phenomenal exhibit that features Frank Gohlke and Nicholas Nixon, and a few other fantastic photographers. I lucked out by being in Phoenix over Easter weekend and got to go to Phoenix Art Museum, and what a time to go because there was also an Ansel Adams exhibit.

Very nice to see Gohlke's work, both photo and prose, receive attention. One small correction: the retrospective exhibition 'Accommodating Nature' was organized by the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth. The exhibition subsequently traveled to the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Frank spoke on a panel in NY this weekend and talked about how he sought a "slippery" quality in his New Topographics work that created a tension between the subject matter and the absolutely beautiful quality of his prints. This explains why he disagrees with the description of the NT work eschewing beauty and emotion.

Best appreciated in person, come see them in the NT show @ SFMOMA from July 17 to October 3, 2010.
