I am kindly writing for and on behalf of the leadership and people of Dentin and Antoa Communities in the Offinso Municipality of the Ashanti Region Ghana to kindly ask you for brochures in your Public Toilet Technology for our consumption.
Waste management has been a major problem and after careful study of your technology wish to call for your kind intervention in technology transfer to ensure the solution of our waste management systems in facilitating a better living conditions for our people under the MDG's.
We highly count on your kind co-operation. Thank you.

I enjoy the charge of dismantling the existing sanitation ladder by also starting with the ‘top rungs’ – makes gravitational sense after all! The so-called property ladder has played a part in breaking the backs of many home mortgage holders – now making many people wary of ‘ladder’ as a notional construct.
Perhaps the timing is right for the bad-luck superstition of walking under ladders to be changed to notionally walking up them - as already flushing will never be the same again once you have the above knowledge.

Superb article! I'm surprised by the scope and depth of issues broached via such an uncommon inquiry. Also, I'm reminded of the role toilets played in Ângela Ferreira's 'Sites and Services' project where the provision is seen as part of a larger project of control.
Thanks Barbara for raising some important questions that all infrastructure designers should consider.

I enjoyed the insightful article by Barbara Penner. I liked the links to Schumacher's Small is Beautiful, neo-colonialism and how we are failing at meeting the Millennium Goals.
As a town planner, I realize that sanitation - and toilets are complex issues - like many others forming part of the bigger picture of Human Settlements.
Happy Toilet Day!
