Nice post, and makes sense. How about canned air collected from celebrity breathing?

Interesting blog post, Rob. I always thought those air projects were basically gags/commercial satire. Interesting to know that the idea of packaging air stretches back to Duchamp.

Great to see Rob Walker writing for Design Observer. He was also the only one (of a few) speakers worth listening to in that Objectified designer films by Gary Huswit.

Now, as for packaging and selling air, I'm more familiar with the plight of people who live in countries where packaging and selling rainwater is not only silly or far-fetched, but a reality. Just look at this PBS page featuring stories and images about the privatization of water in Bolivia: http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/bolivia/

Maybe the design scene is not too familiar with this, because they're busy branding bottled water from Canada? http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/water/

Life is absurd. Will Hot Air sell?
Yes.
Stimulate the senses and you have product.
Combine Flavor + Fragrance with heat and you have an industry—add a little design and you have a culture.
Do it with something you can drink and you have Starbucks.

Does free Wi-Fi + great music = Hot Air?
Let your Android phone
Pick up the tab.
