	<title><![CDATA[Responding to "The Half-Life of History: Wendover and the Enola Gay"]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[At the end of July 1944 into early August I trained at Wendover as a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot. It was an excellent base with a first-rate CO. Flying conditions, day and night, were perfect. I had a broken fuel line and used all and a bit more of the long runway. Our stay was cut short to make way for the Composite Group and I completed training at Abilene under the super ace, Robert S. Johnson. Eventually, I was posted to the 506th Fighter Squadron, 404th Fighter Group, 9th AF and completed 36 sorties, far less then I would have had had my training at Wendover not been aborted.<br />
