This happens at a frighteningly often frequency, with little understanding of the consequences.
It has been know as an issue since at least my high school days 40 years ago. However, continues to fall on deaf ears.

Examples from my own country include;
_the top end has been overrun by the introduction of the seemingly indestructable and fatally poisonous to all things of all sizes cane toad, deemed scientifically appropriate to control a minor pest in sugar cane plantations
_the country has been overrun by the introduction of kikuyu grass to improve grazing pastures
