thank you for the nice pictures and an interesting article!
i thought this year Olympics were pretty amazing! I was really proud of the guys who took so many gold medals and just medals. We were the first, how can one not be proud.

(I guess in a different format that harder to take down? I came upon it by way of passing reference in this: http://www.niemanlab.org/2012/08/the-2012-summer-olympics-are-turning-into-a-giant-coming-out-party-for-the-animated-gif/)

As a designer and competitive figure skater, I've been complaining about the same thing in skating commentary for years (whether its Olympic coverage or just annual World/Nationals coverage). Scott Hamilton may be one of our most cherished Olympic Gold medalists and personalities, but he is a terrible commentator who hasn't bothered to learn the new skating judging system and says things that are flat-out wrong. For the amount of money he is paid, he should bother to educate himself so he can educate others.

Sorry about that. The Olympic Committee seems to have blocked the video for everyone. Way to step on a meme. Suffice it to say, that Raisman's mother sways stiffly from side to side like an anxiety metronome, saying "Good, good, good" after each completed move. And then they go crazy on the dismount.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that the media fails to go into specifics or details of the gymnastics trade. The decision has been made to aim for the lowest common denominator. But some of us find beauty in the details (this is why the live broadcasts are better than the over-edited nighttime coverage).
Similarly, this is how the design media has failed. All I read lately is about Bjarke Ingels' social life, what designers are female, and other b.s. Usually when writers try to "reach a broader audience" they end up not talking about substance at all.
