FEATURED THIS WEEK : MARK LAMSTERfirst review as architecture critic of the Dallas Morning News ran this past weekend, an examination of the George W. Bush Presidential Center. The complex houses three functions — a library, a museum, and a policy institute. The design is by Bob Stern, with landscaping and an attached park by Michael Van Valkenburgh.
OBSERVATORY : ALEXANDRA LANGEchecking another famous modern house off my lifetime list: the J. Irwin and Xenia Miller House in Columbus, Indiana. Having studied the house for different projects over the past seven years, it did not surprise me in person. The colors and folksiness of Girard's work should never distract from his dazzling architecture, which makes everything look like a jewel, and organizes layers of material into coherence.
