Air Guitar: Essays on Art & Democracy
Dave Hickey
Art Issues Press, 1997
Hickey’s hopscotching from high to low in this set of essays is impressive, but the real payoff is that he never lets his knowledge get in the way of his ideas. He comes across like he’s looking for a fight, but he’s too charming to really piss you off. It may seem otherwise at first, but this is not, in the end, a book of criticism: It’s a book of enthusiasm. — Rob Walker
