Design Matters at 15: David Cay Johnston

David Cay Johnston is a muckraker. His investigative journalism has upended the careers of government officials, businessmen, and politicians. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 2003 for beat reporting that showed how corporations were twisting tax laws to their advantage. Since the 2016 presidential election, there’s been more muck to rake than ever, and Johnston has been busy. Last year he wrote The Making of Donald Trump, which The New York Times called a “searing indictment”. His latest book, about what the Trump administration has been up to in it’s first year is called It’s Even Worse Than You Think: What the Trump Administration is Doing to America.

David talks to Debbie about the fun of investigative journalism. “The great thing about being a journalist, if you treat it seriously, is you are a perpetual graduate student, and the only difference is that the public reads your papers”.
