Thesis Book Story: Brett Newman

As we open The Thesis Book Project for submissions, we are pleased to share a book produced for a class at Academy of Art University, in San Francisco. This project was conceived, written, and designed by Brett Newman, who created his book by uploading it to Blurb. Newman shares some highlights from this project, below.

This book was created for for a Type Systems class taught by John Barretto—now Creative Director at Evernote—in the Graphic Design department at Academy of Art University, in San Francisco.

The Museum of Acoustics is a concept museum meant to celebrate and teach visitors about the history and design of the beautiful world of sound technology. By creating a brand, and a relevant experience, I hoped that the Museum could be an ever evolving interactive experience.

John was influential first by allowing us to pick topics we were interested in, which allowed us to bring a passion for the subject to the work. Second, he pushed me not only to experiment, but to really apply some conceptual thinking and execution to the book.
