We Don’t [Heart] NY at Moments Like These
The artist Takeshi Miyakawa, 50, was arrested early Saturday while hanging illuminated plastic bags with the “I ♥ NY” slogan in Brooklyn
Japanese-born designer Takeshi Mikayawa was arrested over the weekend by New York police for “planting false bombs” — which were not bombs at all but light sculptures in plastic bags. The 50-year-old designer relocated from Tokyo to New York City 23 years ago to work for architect Rafael Vinoly. He established his solo design practice, Takeshi Miyakawa Design, in 2001.
The Gothamist shared the Facebook page where updates — as well as pleas for his release — will be posted regularly.
