
Today's selection comes from the extraordinary treasures of The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale. These particular images are from the Cary Playing Cards Database, one of the world's distinguished collections of playing cards and ephemera. Other important collections housed at Beinecke include the Katherine S. Dreier Papers / Société Anonyme Archive, The Alfred Stieglitz/Georgia O'Keeffe Archive and The Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas Papers.

Yes, you can really smell the woodblock and letterpress. But funny how The Queen of Spade Link is practically unaltered in the last 600 years – without loosing its novelty like many other later suit designs.
