Object Lessons
Are you interested in reading about objects? (It’s hard to believe you are not, if you are spending time on Design Observer.) Then direct your gaze toward a new project that launched last week: Object Lessons. This essay-and-book series will concern itself with “the hidden lives of ordinary things.” Masterminded by Ian Bogost and Christopher Schaberg, Object Lessons has teamed up with The Atlantic and Bloomsbury Publishing — and, for those of you interested in writing about objects, the project seeks contributors. (Note: I am on the Object Lessons “advisory board.”) The first essay in what promises to be a long-running project appeared on the Atlantic.com last week, and is about Domino’s pizza. That should give you an idea of how elastic the project’s idea of “an object” might be. More about Object Lessons here. —Rob Walker
