Design Matters Wins People’s Choice Design Award
The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum announced the People’s Choice Design Award on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at its annual gala — and Design Observer’s own Debbie Millman, the creator of the popular Design Matters series of podcast interviews, was the surprise winner.
After creating 100 shows on Voice America between 2005-2009, Millman moved her show to Design Observer in August 2009. Simultaneously Curtis Fox began producing the show, and the interviews took place at in a new recording studio at the School of Visual Arts, where Millman runs the graduate Masters in Branding program. The new Design Matters has produced 33 podcast interviews (links below).
Debbie Millman notes, “Design Matters began in February of 2005 with an idea and a telephone line. I thought it would be a great way to ask my heroes everything I wanted to know about their lives and their thoughts and their careers without seeming stalker-y. In the process, I gleaned the most magnificent view of some of the greatest design thinkers and practitioners of our time. I realized the opportunity to share the brilliance of my guests with an audience I never expected was the gift of a lifetime.”
Design Matters is exclusively published on Design Observer and all broadcasts can be downloaded for free on iTunes. The show is funded by the School of Visual Arts and Sterling Brands. The producer of Design Matters is Curtis Fox of Curtis Fox Productions. Research is provided by Jennifer Simon and technical support is provided by Rainy Orteca.
