Thesis Book Story: Eddy Ibrahim
In the run up to our Thesis Book Project, Design Observer is publishing excerpts and images from thesis projects past.
See Jessica Helfand’s thesis here and Nancy Skolos’ here. Anna Nazo’s 2014 thesis from Central Saint Martins is here and Erin Zwaska’s is here.
The Aesthetics of Failure was part of my final year project for a BFA in Visual Communications at NTU, School of Art Design and Media. It explores the uncertainty and possibilities of failure in analog and digital processes—the signifier and the signified in visual communications devices. It investigates the nuances of failure in providing insight into new ways of seeing.
Due to budget constraints, I only printed two copies of the book. For the newspaper component, I produced 100 copies to be given out on the day of the thesis exhibition. Since my thesis was accepted for my degree, I haven’t had time to expand the project further, but from a very practical perspective, it has provided me with insights and lessons that I apply everyday as a design professional.
